The event organizers, the North Bay Area Mardi Gras Association was formed in 1988 and had its first parade in 1989.
Some History:
The association was founded in 1988 by Judy Bird, Jimmy Bird, Joe Rogers and Jane Rogers. The purpose of the organization is to present a Mardi Gras Parade in the St. Martin - d'Iberville area. The parade spans Jackson and Harrison Countries in Mississippi.
Research for the name of the king and queen was done by Magaret and Floyd Bullock. Murella Hebert Powell sugested the name LaMarin for the queen as teh Marin was one of the ships on which Pierre LeMoyne d'Iberville sailed to the area. LeMoyne was suggested for the king because of the historical ties to this area.
A contest was held at local schools for a design for the emblem. A student at St. Martin Junior High School won the contest with the emblem used to this day.

The first Celebration Dance was held at d'Iberville Community Center. Queen LaMarin I, Dee Clark and King LeMoyne I, Jimmy Bird reigned over the dance and parade.
