Preserve Golf Club Announces Opening
by Staff
Chris Champagne, Head Golf Professional Stephen Miles, Director of Golf Operations The Preserve Golf Club Opens July 14 The Preserve Golf Club is eighteen holes of ‘pure golf’ without the distraction Ownership and management have worked with such organizations as the Audubon International and the Nature Conservancy to create a facility which compliments its natural setting. These native surroundings include pitcher plant bogs, cypress swamps, long leaf pine savannah, live oak groves and numerous wildlife species. “One primary goal during production has been not only to keep this property undisturbed but to protect and maintain its natural bloom,” stated The Preserve’s Head Golf Professional, Chris U.S. Open Champion and proven Champions Tour veteran Jerry Pate was chosen to design the course. The award winning course designer and his team’s dedication to this project are reflected by the quality of the finished product. Pate has designed such premium courses as Canebrake, Kiva Dunes, Steelwood, and Rancho La Quinta. Co-designing Dancing Rabbit with Tom Fazio and Old Waverly with Bob Cupp are other prime examples of Pate’s touch of excellence. The initial vision of The Preserve Golf Club was to create a premium golf course complimenting the Gulf Coast’s first class hotels and gaming facilities with a primary focus on setting a higher standard in the golf market throughout the area. Production of The Preserve Golf Club was interrupted by Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005. However, the dedication and commitment to complete the golf course never waivered. The Preserve will be the first resort style golf course to grace the Mississippi Gulf Coast since the storm. The course features an eighteen hole, par 71 layout, with five sets of tees to accommodate players of all skill levels. A complete and full service practice facility is just one more added amenity. The Preserve Golf Club will open to the public this Friday, July 14. The course plans to hold its grand opening after completion of the clubhouse in the fall of this year. ---end--- 4892 times read
