16 PAQUITA - BILOXI CITY BALLET  BILOXI,MS
The plot takes place in Spain under the occupation of Napoleon's army. The heroine is a young Gypsy girl, Paquita, of noble birth is abducted by Gypsies when she was a baby. She manages to save the life of a young French officer, Lucien d'Hervilly, who is the target of a Spanish governor who wants to have him killed by Iñigo, a gypsy chief. She discovers at the end, thanks to a medallion, that she is in fact the cousin of Lucien, and can marry him. Most of the action takes place in a palace in Spain, under the command of Lucien, where Paquita dances with the other noble girls of the country. Paquita is presented in two acts and three scenes by the Biloxi City Ballet and stars Olga Pavlova & Yevgeni Anfinogenov! Fais Do-Do & Coronation of the Shrimp King & Queen – Saturday, May 31 Blessing of the Fleet – Sunday, June 1 The Fais Do-Do – a much-loved Biloxi tradition - features continuous live entertainment, hundreds of craft vendors, local artisans, and the best seafood in the entire world! The climax of the festive party is the coronation of the King and Queen! The celebration continues Sunday, June 1 with the ceremonial wreath dropping @ 1pm. Boats form in the west end of the Biloxi Channel near the Beau Rivage Casino and then parade east in the Biloxi Channel! Shrimp boats and recreational boats receive blessings for a safe and bountiful season! The scene amounts to a Mardi Gras parade on water! Music blares from boat radios, and the boats parade by and wave to spectators. The crowds are not as thick as during Mardi Gras, but the attitude is the same: Eat, drink, and be merry! 31 80th ANNUAL GREAT BILOXI SCHOONER RACE  BILOXI,MS
Many seafood factories had been built along the Coast by the 1890s, and each one of them constructed its own schooners for harvesting shrimp and oysters. However, in June and July, the factories organized races for cash prizes to see which one of them had the fastest schooner! Schooner races became a popular activity for betting on the Gulf Coast! The tradition continues today with the Biloxi Schooner Races! The Glenn L. Swetman and The George Sekul compete to see which of them is the fastest! Watch as the famous Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum-Biloxi Schooners race along the Mississippi Gulf Coast shoreline under full sail! The Great Biloxi Schooner Race is held in conjunction with the annual Blessing of the Fleet and is considered a celebration of the onset of shrimping season!
