Oceans Springs Elks Mardi Gras Parade
by Staff

Ocean Springs, MS   The first Gulf Coast Mardi Gras parade of the season ran today. The 30th Annual Ocean Springs parade was well attended. Traditionally the first parade, had over 55 units parading and tossing Beads, trinkets and "Moon Pies".  Local media WLOX was there filming. Expect footage on the local news tonight. We dont have many photos of the parade. It was much larger than depicted here.

Here are a few photos. This parade is a family oriented parade attended by many children. Enjoyed by kids of all ages. Lots of beads flying.

Of course the actual parade on only part of the event. Many people walk around prior to the parade on the parade route. A real social occasion.

Local Law enforcement Head up the Parade..."Get out of the way"

And every parade has an Honor Guard. Courtesy of the ROTC I think.

Derby Strutters - Tossing some beads!

Gimme beads...For the Baby....

Renaissance - The people in costume, pictures not the best but the
Knight really "shined"

On these smaller parades you can sometimes walk up to the float
and get handed something special!

Coming up are more parades in the following weeks. Get there early
to park.
